Abstract
E. histolytica causes intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis in man and a variety of nonhuman primates after invading the tissues.E. histolytica infections of man are endemic almost worldwide but in most cases are restricted to the silent carrier state. Despite its cosmopolitan distribution the highest incidence of clinical amebiasis apparently occurs in tropical or subtropical countries (Seehy, 1981).
