Electro-optic and Photorefractive Materials

Part of the book series: Springer Proceedings in Physics ((SPPHY,volume 18))

Abstract

An introduction to electro-optical effects in dielectric materials is given. Inorganic and organic crystals for optoelectronic devices such as modulators, switches and signal processors are reviewed. The fundamental physical effects relevant for these applications and the materials figures of merit are described and some devices realized with dielectric materials are discussed.
