The purpose of this study is to broaden the technological knowledge connected with laser cladding of heat treated materials,which is aimed at improving their ability to withstand wear, high temperature and corrosive atmosphere. The laser has been found to be an excellent energy source for cladding for several reasons:
  1. a)

    The ability to control the amount of energy introduced to the material and its location — thus treating specified areas only.

  2. b.)

    Narrow heat affected zone (HAZ) and therefore low distortion levels and practically no damage to base material.

  3. c.)

    Good metallurgical adhesion of cladded layer to base material.
