Zusammenfassung
Die Einführung des Methylmetacrylats als Knochenzement in die Hüftendoprothetik durch Charnley 1960 hat die weite Verbreitung des künstlichen Hüftgelenkersatzes im heutigen Ausmaß möglich gemacht [4–7]. So schrieb McKee 1970 [16]: „1960 wurde das Methylmetacrylat als Zement eingesetzt und augenblicklich verbesserte sich die Erfolgsrate gewaltig und liegt jetzt bei über 90%. Dies ist auf die Tatsache zurückzuführen, daß der Zement die Last über eine große Knochenfläche verteilt…“. Ohne Zweifel sind die Frühresultate der zementierten Hüftprothesen zufriedenstellend und wir können davon ausgehen, daß der Patient unmittelbar nach der Operation über eine schmerzfreie und belastbare Hüfte verfügt.
