Zusammenfassung

Die epidemiologische Forschung auf dem Gebiet der Alterspsychiatrie beschäftigte sich in den vergangenen Jahren in erster Linie damit, die Häufigkeit psychischer Störungen oder psychiatrischer Syndrome festzustellen. Aus methodischen Gründen erfolgte dies in der Regel für eine gewisse Zeitspanne (Periodenprävalenz), seltener für einen Stichtag (Stichtagprävalenz) oder durch Feststellung der Häufigkeit von Neuerkrankungen innerhalb eines bestimmten Zeitraumes (Inzidenz). Eine solche Häufigkeitsfeststellung psychischer Krankheiten kann für bestimmte Betreuungseinrichtungen erfolgen, so für Psychiatrische Krankenhäuser (Panse 1959; Kleemeier 1960; Pollack et al. 1961; Strömgren 1963; Bork 1982; Jaeger 1987) oder für Heime (u. a. Goldfarb 1962; Bergener et al. 1974; Teeter et al. 1976; Wilkin et al. 1978; Kelleher u. Benner 1981; Cooper u. Sosna 1983; Lehmkuhl et al. 1985; Bickel u. Jaeger 1986; Meyer-König u. Riederer 1987 sowie Jaeger 1987). Ebenso ist die Inanspruchnahme ambulanter Betreuungseinrichtungen, etwa des niedergelassenen Arztes, (Williamson et al. 1964; Weyerer 1983) ein epidemiologisches Forschungsgebiet. Die Kontaktnahme bestimmter diagnostischer Gruppen mit allen medizinischen Betreuungseinrichtungen einer Region ist durch die sogenannte Fallregistermethode erfaßbar (Adelstein et al. 1968; Wing et al. 1972; Helgason 1977). Fallregister dürfen allerdings in der Bundesrepublik aufgrund besonders strenger Datenschutzbestimmungen nicht geführt werden.
