Zusammenfassung

Zerebrovaskuläre Erkrankungen bilden in der westlichen Welt die dritthäufigste Todesursache. Die Erkrankungen sind darüber hinaus die Hauptursache neurologischer Behinderungen und seelischer Störungen, insbesondere im höheren Alter. Bislang wurde bei zerebrovaskulären Erkrankungen kein einfaches genetisches Erbmuster gefunden; indessen zeigen Angehörige von Patienten mit der Kombination Schlaganfall und Demenz ein etwas erhöhtes Risiko (Åkesson 1969; Jarvik u. Matsuyama 1983), und es wurden hereditäre Formen einer zerebrovaskulären Demenz beschrieben (Gudmundsson et al. 1972; Sourander u. Wålinder 1977). Der stärkste Risikofaktor für alle Typen des Schlaganfalls ist die Hypertonie. Weitere wesentliche Risikofaktoren sind: Kardiovaskuläre Erkrankung, Diabetes, Hyperlipämie und pathologische Veränderungen der Blutviskosität (Kannel et al. 1976).
