Regional Hemodynamic and Metabolic Disturbances in Experimental Cerebral Ischemia

Abstract

Measurements of regional blood flow and metabolism have proved to be of considerable interest for evaluating the size and severity of tissue damage following stroke. Therefore, various clinical imaging techniques are used for the study of the density and the regional pattern of hemodynamic and metabolic disturbances during evolution of brain infarction [1, 2, 9, 12, 14]. However, interpretation of the results is limited as long as the significance of the observed alterations for the pathophysiological process is not known. This problem can be solved with animal experiments by applying imaging techniques for the study of various hemodynamic and metabolic parameters to the same animal [10].
