A particle such as an atom, that is ionised by a strong electromagnetic radiation field, can give rise to the production of electrons of different energies. If the kinetic energy of such a photoelectron is larger than that of the largest photon in the radiation field, we will call the production process of this electron excess-photon ionisation (EPI).
