Abstract

In many cases, more than one measurement of a given metric trait can be obtained from the same individual. Repetition of measurements on the same individual can be either spatial or temporal. As an example of spatial repetition of measurements, we might measure the length of both the right and left femurs of a mouse, or the size of fruit from two different branches of an apple tree. Temporal repetition might involve body weights taken on successive days on an adult mouse, or leaf area in successive years for a perennial plant.
