Abstract
The word migration in common speech refers to the movement of people or animals from one geographical location to another. Seasonal migration among birds is a well-known phenomenon. Many species migrate, with the coming of spring, to breeding grounds in northern latitudes, retreating in autumn to southern climes. (As I write these words, a honking flock of wild geese is passing overhead, migrating northward.)
