Abstract
Prolonged endotracheal intubation and congenital malformations are the most common causes of distal narrowing of the trachea in infancy and childhood (Mansfield 1980; O’Neill 1984). Resection of the stenosis with subsequent end-to-end anastomosis has proved to be the treatment of choice in older patients (Grillo 1976) and was first successfully performed in the paediatric age group by Carcassonne et al. (1973). We report on a case with postintubational distal tracheal stenosis where resection of one-third of the trachea and subsequent primary anastomosis were successfully performed.
