An Evaluation of High Speed Local Area Network Access Mechanisms

Abstract

In this paper we evaluate the merits of a range of access mechanisms (AMs) in the context of HSLANs. Performance measures and qualitative criteria are stated. A selection of AMs is made and a comparative performance analysis of DAMA, the Cambridge ring and FDDI protocols is given. Attention is paid in particular to system efficiency.
