Abstract

Among the peroxides in general there are several classes of compounds which contain the structural element A derived from compounds such as tetrakis-dimethylamino ethylene (TMAE), Schiff bases, diisoquinolinium salts, indoles etc. Although the mechanisms are probably related, there are several areas of doubt in interpretation. Many of the observations are consistent with the intermediacy of a dioxetan, but in view of the expected short lifetimes in the presence of electron donating nitrogen, confirmation is difficult. Indeed while such electron donation and electron transfer can be involved to explain such short lifetimes, the explanation is not complete.
