Ohne Schmerz ist menschliches Leben nicht denkbar, Schmerz hat vitale Bedeutung als lebenserhaltendes Warnsystem. Die rechtzeitige Ortung eines schädigenden Reizes ermöglicht es dem Organismus, Reaktionen zu dessen Vermeidung in Gang zu setzen.
