Zusammenfassung
Die Trophoblasttumoren besitzen ähnliche Eigenschaften wie ein normaler Trophoblast bzw. Konzeptus. Zu der bei den normalen Trophoblasten schon vorhandenen Invasionspotenz kommt bei den Trophoblasttumoren zusätzlich die Fähigkeit der Gefäßarrosion und der Metastasierung hinzu. Im Vergleich zum Wirt bestehen die Tumoren aus einem genetisch fremden Material. Die Häufigkeit der Trophoblasttumoren zeigt starke regionale Unterschiede. Besonders oft kommen sie in Südostasien vor. In der Häufigkeit des Auftretens bestehen deutliche rassische Unterschiede.
