Abstract
Calcifications occurring in the lobular and ductal system of the breast account for 26.3% of all intramammary calcifications encountered in daily practice (see Table 1.3). They account for 24.5% of cases the author has referred for biopsy (281 of 1144 biopsies). These calcifications, whether of benign or malignant etiology, almost always represent casts of the cavities in which they occur, and this determines their shape and arrangement. An accurate knowledge of normal, pathologic, and radiographic anatomy is necessary to establish the localization of the calcifications and make a differential diagnosis.
