Schizoaffective Psychoses

Abstract

The nosological and diagnostic evaluation and classification of schizoaffective psychoses presents psychiatrists dealing with adults, or children and juveniles with considerable problems, to which no satisfactory solution has yet been found. The following concepts have been discussed: a) Schizoaffective psychoses are a subgroup of schizophrenia; b) schizoaffective psychoses are a subgroup of cyclothymia; c) schizoaffective psychoses represent a transitional stage between schizophrenia and cyclothymia; d) schizoaffective psychoses are mixed psychoses with schizophrenic and cyclothymie components; e) schizoaffective psychoses represent an independent nosological entity; f) schizoaffective psychoses constitute a heterogeneous syndrome with various psychotic disease pictures (Maj 1984).
