Zusammenfassung

Das Deutsche Forschungsnetz (DFN) stellt als anwendungsorientiertes Projekt rechnergestützte Kommunikationsdienste für die Wissenschaft bereit. Anwender im wissenschaftlichen Bereich sollen durch diese Kommunikationsdienste bei der täglichen Arbeit unterstützt werden. Zu dieser Arbeit gehört in ständig steigendem Umfang die Erzeugung von Dokumenten, wie z.B. Ergebnisberichten, Zeitschriftenartikeln, Benutzeranleitungen und Büchern. Neben alphanumerischen Zeichen treten in diesen Dokumenten aus dem technisch-wissenschaftlichen Bereich zahlreiche Son-derinformationen, wie z.B. Formeln und Graphiken auf.
