Abstract
As we made clear in the introduction, the compilation of a comprehensive description of research findings was only part of our purpose in reviewing literature on smoking behaviour. We were also particularly interested in determining the limitations of previous research and finding areas where further research and new inquiries are called for. Similarly, we considered it important to develop new methodological approaches on the basis of an analysis of contemporary investigations into smoking. In this chapter attention will be devoted to the last two points.
