Abstract
Any study design inevitably implies methodological decisions with far-reaching consequences for the validity and range of its results. This also applies to the present retrospective comparative study, which traces back the subjects’ development through life, starting from the time of the study (and which - as a long-term study - will be supplemented by a prospective follow-up study). Yet the limitations for the value of the results can be kept within narrow bounds if the problems and restrictions of the individual research techniques are kept in mind.
