Abstract
Within the scope of integrated pest management, crop protection measures can be divided into preventive and curative measures (Palti 1981). Preventive measures mainly encompass the use of resistant varieties and appropriate cultural practices, and can also be described as measures aimed at reducing the probability of crop loss (Heitefuβ 1975). Curative measures, on the other hand, comprise all direct pest control measures. From a decision-oriented point of view, crop protection measures can either be implemented prophylactically according to the generally expected damage levels, or in the form of targeted measures based on pest population monitoring.
