Abstract

René Descartes (1596–1650), the greatest philosopher of 17th century in France, thought that the pineal body might act as a valve or sphincter to regulate the passage of spirits between the ventricular chambers, and this tiny organ thus gained supreme importance as “the seat of the soul”. What we have to deal with today is that the pineal body or gland can often be the seat of various kinds of tumors.
