Abstract

Recently BAEP have been used as a diagnostic tool in the operating room [1-4]. Patients undergoing surgery around the brain stem or in the posterior fossa are at a high risk of damage to the brain stem. While operating on large tumors or arteriovenous malformations it is of advantage to inform the surgeon intraoperatively on brain stem function. Postoperatively we try to safeguard these patients by a routine check-up including BAEPs. Besides that, we use the prognostic value of BAEPs in severely head injured patients (Tables 1 and 2).
