Abstract
Complex exponentials exp iα are ideal mathematical expressions for treating the interactions of waves. Multiplying a real vector of magnitude f by the complex exponential, exp iα, rotates the vector by the angle α in the complex plane, i.e., (see Fig. VIII.1) f · exp iα = f · cos α + i · f · sin α.
