Abstract

In previous research in our laboratory, attempts were made to reproduce results in which type A subjects would show higher physiologic reactivity to challenging situations, as numerous studies had demonstrated earlier. Friedman et al. (1970), Glass (1977), and Glass et al. (1980 a, b) observed higher physiologic and neurohormonal responses in task situations by type B subjects and in rest situations by type A subjects. In fact, higher levels of urinary catecholamine excretion were found in type B subjects during reaction time tasks, while, after watching a nonengaging movie, type A individuals excreted more urinary catecholamines (Van der Molen 1982).
