Abstract
Beta-adrenergic antagonists entered clinical use in the 1960s. Thus they predate calcium antagonists by about a decade and unlike these drugs, which are structurally heterogeneous group of compounds, they are all structurally similar, being analogues of isoprenaline. They have a spectrum of similar to that of therapeutic applications calcium antagonists, namely, systemic arterial hypertension, angina pectoris and supraventricular tachydysrhythmias. Indications for treatment with one class of drug or another vary according to circumstances.
