Abstract

The incidence rate is about seven cases per one million children less than 15 years of age per year [30, 50, 49]. This figure varies a little bit in different countries; the highest rate observed was 10.4 cases per million per year among American black males [63] and the lowest, 4.9 cases among males in England [7]. At the time of diagnosis 64% of the children are 4 years old or younger. The average age is between 3 and 4 years. The frequency is about equal between the sexes. The first National Wilms’ Tumor Study (NWTS) showed a ratio of 0.97:1.0 (male:female) [1].
