Abstract

In analysis of the gallbladder, sonography has triumphed, since it has supplanted and even eliminated oral cholecystography. In adults, abdominal ultrasound imaging is carried out with a 3 or 3.5 MHz transducer. It is a rapid, conclusive and reproducible investigation which does not depend upon hepatic function or require the use of ionizing radiation. The only constraint is that it must be performed in a patient who has been fasting for at least 12 h.
