Summary

The optimization of network structures being a main task for the communications planning engineer is described. Possibilities of division into manageable subproblems are demonstrated as there are the breakdown to hierarchical network layers, the allocation of nodes, and the assignment of subscribers, flow optimization and trunk dimensioning. Methods for the solution of these problems are discussed.
