Abstract

The first detailed description of metamorphic rocks of the Pechenga complex was made by Zagorodny et al. (1964). Based on geological mapping data, metamorphic rocks were subdivided into the greenschist facies (comprising two subfacies), amphibolite-epidote and amphibolite facies. It was established that isogrades of regional metamorphism cross-cut the lithological boundaries and that temperatures of metamorphism increase from upper stratigraphic horizons to lower ones, i.e. from the greenschist to amphibolite facies. Narrow zones of diaphthorites of the greenschist facies were established against the general background of the regional metamorphism.
