Presurgical Evaluation of Epileptics

Abstract

The main objective of the preoperative EEG investigation in patients with partial or complex partial seizures resides in providing reliable localization of their seizure problem. This task is best attained by means of prolonged EEG monitoring which is primarily aimed at the recording of the patient’s habitual attacks (Gotman et al. 1985 for review). This method can supply localizing evidence deriving from several sources: documentation of the clinical seizure pattern; recording of the ictal electrographic features, ideally including its correlation with the clinical behavioral manifestations, and recording of the interictal EEG abnormalities.
