Abstract
Once upon a time, the EEG was, for the evaluation of epilepsy, the predominant method of investigation. Within the span of one generation, a host of shortcomings and limitations relating to the method’s precision and reliability came to light, while new developments and alternative techniques progressed continuously. Many feared that electroencephalography might lapse into insignificance. There is therefore good reason to evaluate, within the context of the variety of methods of examination now available, the present place of the conventional EEG.
