Specific Neuroradiological Examinations Necessary for Stereotactic Procedures

  • Conference paper

Abstract

Neuroradiological study of epileptic patients may be carried out in different ways according to the methodology employed and to the therapeutic goals of the clinicians. Our task here is confined to discussing the neuroradiological examinations which should be performed before exploring epileptic patients with intracerebral stereotactically implanted electrodes (stereo-EEG). According to our methodology, as often previously described (Bancaud 1959; Bancaud and Talairach 1970, 1975; Talairach and Bancaud 1963, 1973), the neuroradiological study is always carried out in stereotactic conditions. Such a procedure enables us (a) to precisely identify the different cerebral structures (cortical and subcortical), and (b) to explore these structures while avoiding, as well as possible, any dangerous approach.
