Abstract
Graphics metafiles have been used for a considerable time for storing and transmitting pictures. GKS includes a metafile interface as part of the standard (cf. Chapter III.11). An appendix of the GKS document gives the definition of the GKS metafile that can be used together with this interface. However, it is not part of the ISO standard. Efforts have been started within ISO to standardize a single graphics metafile.
