Abstract

In order to bring some unification into the great variety of hardware input devices, a small number of well-defined, abstract input devices has been identified. The concept of virtual input devices was enunciated by Wallace [WALL76] as a means whereby interactive graphics applications could be insulated from the peculiarities of the input devices at particular terminals.
