Abstract

In many ways there is no normal radiology of the adult thymus. It is not usually visible on an adult chest film, in either frontal or lateral projections, nor on fluoroscopy or conventional tomography as its flattened margins are buried within the contours of the mediastinum. The thymus does not impinge on the normal cardiovascular silhouette, its soft tissue density is indistinguishable from the surrounding structures and there is no contrast agent that produces a thymic blush (Kreel 1969).
