Osteochondral graft was already in clinical use at the beginning of this century but was abandoned for two reasons:
  1. 1)

No experimental studies were carried out to try and solve problems coneming this method.

  2. 2)

The excellent progress which was achieved in bioengineering and the understanding of the biomechanical problems in orthopaedics. Recently when we have to solve more and more cases of failed total hip replacement there is a revival in the use of the biological arthroplasty. There are few basic problems conceming this method like the immunogenicity of the osteochondral allograft, the problem of cartilage preservation and the surgical technique of osteochondral graft.
