Abstract
We have performed ASAXS experiments on AlZnAg alloys (and an AlZn alloy for comparison) using synchrotron radiation facilities at Stanford (SSRlTFand at Orsay (LURE). By varying the X-ray energy near the Zn absorption edge (i.e. from 8.5 to 9.6 keV), we observed a decrease in the SAXS intensities due to the decrease of the Zn atomic scattering factor. The analysis of these data enabled us to determine the position of the different tielines on the AlZnAg metastable phase diagram. In the case of Al-14%Zn-4%Ag we clearly showed a rotation of the corresponding tieline when the unmixing process changes from Guinier-Preston (GP) zone formation to ε’ formation.
