Abstract

Since World War II, due to technological growth, large quantities of synthetic chemicals, probably unknown to the biota before (xenobiotics), have been introduced into the natural systems. Some of these compounds are quickly degraded or transformed into natural or inert substances, others are long living and easily transported far from the immission areas.
