Gas exchange characteristics of representative species from the scrub vegetation of central Chile

Plant Response to Stress

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIG,volume 15))

Abstract

In this chapter, I will review the history, scope, methods, and results of field-based plant ecophysiological research with matorral species from central Chile. An attempt will be made to relate photosynthesis and respiration responses of the native vegetation to seasonal and diurnal changes in site light, temperature and water availability characteristics. The results reported are used to evaluate our current knowledge of gas exchange ecophysiology of Chilean matorral species and to suggest where future research may be profitably directed.
