Treatment of Upper Digestive Cancer with Nd-YAG Laser and Endoscopy: With Focus on the Improvement of Cardiac Stricture

Abstract

Argon and Nd-YAG laser have been recently used in treating cancers of the digestive tract. The use of the lasers in the treatment of tumors only began 5 or 6 years ago in Japan, and has been restricted to the treatment of early gastric cancers. On the other hand, inoperable advanced gastric cancers can not satisfactorily be controlled by the conventional cancer therapy yet. Therefore, we have tried to incorporate the Nd-YAG laser to the multidisciplinary treatment on the advanced gastric cancers1).
