„Zugang zu internationalen Netzen“

Kurzfassung

Beim Blick auf die internationale Netzlandschaft stellt man fest, daß derzeit eine erhebliche Anzahl von Rechnernetzen im Wissenschaftsbereich existieren (ARPANET, CSNET, BITNET u.a.), die sowohl in ständigem Wachstum, als auch in einer zunehmenden Verflechtung untereinander begriffen sind. Aus deutscher Sicht stellt sich die Frage, wie neben dem Aufbau einer nationalen Infrastruktur Anschlüsse an diese Netze realisiert werden können.

Der folgende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über existierende internationale Netze einschließlich deren Interkonnektionen für den ELECTRONIC-MAIL-Dienst. Es folgt die Darstellung des Netz-Istzustandes in Deutschland. Die speziell in Karlsruhe bei der Realisierung eines CSNET-HOST’s gewonnenen Erkenntnisse und Erfahrungen werden dargestellt. Adressierungsfragen werden diskutiert sowie aktuelle Probleme aufgezeigt.

Looking over the German frontiers we realize especially in the scientific area a remarkable number of computer-networks (ARPANET, CSNET, BITNET a.o.), which are growing rapidly and tend to interconnect with each other in multiple ways.

From the German point of view the question is how to come along with both the erection of a nation-wide network and the access to international networks.

The following paper first tries to give a general survey of existing international networks and their services including ELECTRONIC MAIL-Interconnections. The network-status of Germany is presented subsequently. Special experiences and results gained during the realization and operation of the CSNET-HOST at Karlsruhe are presented. Adressing questions are discussed as well as actual problems.
