Abstract

Nicergoline is a hemisynthetic derivative of ergot alcaloids, which has been shown to have a predominant alpha-1 blocking activity with a slight activity on alpha-2 receptors [8, 15]. This alpha-blocking and, therefore, vasodilating effect has justified the study of the vascular effects of the drug in healthy subjects and in patients with peripheral arterial disease.
