Forms and Techniques of the Supracondylar Femoral Osteotomy

  • Conference paper

Abstract

Osteoarthritis is the result of a highly complex biomechanical and biochemical derangement. Despite improved insights into the metabolism and morphology of the hyaline cartilage, we are not yet able to intervent therapeutically at this level, and so we must direct our efforts toward the elimination of other factors involved in the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis. The major problem in this regard is incongruity of the articular surfaces, which is caused by damage to the joint surfaces, angular limb deformities, and laxity of capsular and ligamentous tissues.
