BALB/c Subline Differences in Susceptibility to Plasmacytoma Induction

Abstract

We previously described the resistance of BALB/cJ mice to develop plasmacytomas after the i.p. injection of pristane (2,6,10,14- tetramethylpentadecane), a light, white oil (Potter and Wax, 1981). In contrast, BALB/cAnPt (BALB/cAnπ) were highly susceptible. We have examined other BALB/c sublines to determine if susceptibility is unique to BALB/cAnPt, as most other inbred strains of mice are resistant to plasmacytoma induction by i.p. pristane, mineral oils or plastics (Morse et al. 1980), indicating that resistance genes are common in mice.
