Momentum Exchange Between Matter and Radiation

This chapter considers some processes for which momentum exchange between matter and radiation is essential. Section 7.2 treats the approach to thermal equilibrium of a gas through interaction with a blackbody radiation field. Section 7.3 presents a discussion of radiative forces. And the final Sect. 7.4 derives the basic relations for relativistic Compton scattering of photons by free electrons.
