Abstract
The main problems in the in vitro propagation of trees are principally the same as in herbs, i.e., induction of callus, cultivation of subculturable callus lines and induction of differentiation. In this paper, the second problem has been studied in more detail because poor growth of callus cultures of trees usually results in a limited quantity of material for experiments on cytodifferentiation and physiological regulation of organogenesis. Nitrogen sources have a central role in callus growth but a less well-known function in differentiation.
