Abstract
The condition may be of peripheral or central origin, and under each of these circumstances a variety of causes should be considered. The basic question, peripheral vs central, is not always easy to decide. More than one patient has received conservative or even operative treatment for a slipped disk, while in fact suffering either from cortical monoparesis due to ischemic stroke, or from a crossed leg palsy (see below).
