Abstract
The dibromide of bis(β-quinolinoethyl)succinate which exhibits a strong anticholinesterase activity and relatively low acute toxicity (Ķimenis 1960 a, 1961) has been synthesized in the course of a systemic study of heterocyclic analogs of suxamethonium (Wassermann 1961). Its diiodide was also prepared later, the pharmacologic properties of which were found identical to those of the dibromide. The new compound has been given the name chinothylinum (structure I) and recommended for clinical trial. The drug has been authorized for clinical use in the USSR. Chinothylinum is a greenish-yellow fine crystalline powder with a bitter taste and without odor, poorly suluble in water. It is manufactured as 0.05% and 0.2% solution in 2-ml ampules.
