Zusammenfassung
Die Programmiersprache PROLOG (Programming in logic) [1] gewinnt weltweit zunehmend an Bedeutung. PROLOG ist eine Sprache mit sehr mächtigen Datenverarbeitungsmechanismen wie Backtracking, Pattern Matching und relationale Datenbanken, und wird vor allem in Bereichen eingesetzt, die symbolische, deskriptive Methoden zur Problemlösung heranziehen. Hierzu zählen in erster Linie Anwendungsgebiete der künstlichen Intelligenz wie Expertensysteme und Verstehen natürlicher Sprache, aber auch die mathematische Logik (formale Ableitung von Beweisen, Spielprobleme), die Biochemie (Strukturanalysen) und Operations Research (Optimierungsalgorithmen).
